Dreaming the dream matchups

On Tuesday, those who follow high school baseball around the area will finally get to see the game they have been waiting to see, as two of the state's best programs, Lake Orion and Brother Rice, will meet in a baseball state quarterfinal. It's been a long time since the Dragons and Warriors have met so it should be quite an event for the baseball community. It also got Kosmo to thinking of some dream matchups he wants to see in other sports as well. Here are a few of them. Clarkston or Lake Orion vs. Brother Rice, Orchard Lake St. Mary's or Catholic Central in football - Anyone of these combinations would work. In 2009 it was nearly Clarkston and Catholic Central in the state football final before poor judgement by referees ruined in the matchup. Maybe Clarkston or Lake Orion could play the Catholic League superpowers in a non-league game at some point, or maybe they would play in a playoff game. Whatever the case, one of those games is a dream matchup. Classic OAA vs. Catholic League. Clarkston vs. Country Day in boys basketball - Kosmo remembers these teams playing at some time in the 1980's, but doesn't believe they have since. Two of the state's best programs each year, it would be a neat sight to see Country Day visit Clarkston's gym or Clarkston visiting Country Day. Even with Country Day coach Kurt Keener now gone to Arizona, it would still be an awesome game to watch.
