Here we go again
The Class B state championship in boys basketball may technically be on Saturday in East Lansing, but figuratively it'll be Tuesday night at Brighton High School.
For the third straight year, it'll be Birmingham Detroit Country Day and Flint Powers in the state quarterfinals, with Country Day looking to avenge losses the last two years to the Chargers.
Country Day is ranked No. 1 in the state, while Powers is No. 2, so this is the de facto state championship.
Kosmo has thought Country Day would win the last two years, but obviously Powers managed to win despite being vastly undersized in comparison to Country Day.
We'll see if Country Day has learned its lessons on Tuesday. Kosmo thinks Ray McCallum and Amir Williams will be plenty motivated to dominate, which will be needed to dethrone Powers.
Hopefully there'll be enough room in the Brighton gym.
- Sometimes Kosmo isn't happy when he was right, and he's definitely not happy he was right about Grand Rapids Catholic Central beating Country Day in the Class B girls basketball final on Saturday. Kosmo's worst fears were realized when it came to Country Day's young ballhandlers.
As good as Aeriel Powers and Amber Deane are and will be, they just seemed a little to excited playing in a state final for the first time. It's good that they experienced it though, because they'll be better for it the next two years.
