Kosmo doesn't now what he'll eat on Thanksgiving, he just knows he'll eat a lot and enjoy the time. Here's hoping everyone else does as well. Sure, times have been tough, but at least take one day to be thankful that things could be worse. Much worse. Try living in a third-world country where they don't even have toilets to use, let alone a roof over their head.
So enjoy all the good things we have and not dwell on what we don't. One thing we do have is two teams playing in the high school football finals this weekend, Birmingham Detroit Country Day and Lake Orion.
So will either win?

Kosmo is a firm believer in humility, but after the beating he took in forecasting games throughout the state playoffs, the K-Man can't help but brag about his previous blog.
In that space, he said Birmingham Detroit Country Day and Lake Orion would win their state football semifinal games, Bloomfield Hills Lahser and Southfield would lose theirs, Birmingham Marian would lose to Jenison in the Class A state volleyball final and Birmingham Marian in Division 3 and Farmington Hills Mercy in Division 2 would win state girls swim titles in their divisions.
Well, look at what happened on Saturday. Country Day and Lake Orion won, Lahser and Southfield lost, Marian indeed played Jenison in the volleyball final and lost, while Marian and Mercy won their respective state swim titles.
Talk about a great way to rebound. As for this weekend's state final picks, stay tuned to www.miprepzone and the Oakland Press later this week.

It doesn't get any better than this weekend, and Kosmo is not talking just about Michigan State-Penn State. Nope, Kosmo is fired up about what could be a historic weekend of schools accomplishing athletic feats for the first time in school history.
Without further delay, here are some predictions for this weekend.
- Oakland County will have two representatives in the state football finals at Ford Field. Birmingham Detroit Country Day will win its Division 4 semifinal against Croswell-Lexington, while Lake Orion will head to the Division 1 finals for the first time in school history by beating a tough Dearborn Fordson team. Sorry Bloomfield Hills Lahser and Southfield. Prove Kosmo wrong, but he just feels Inkster and Warren De La Salle are too tough.
- Birmingham Marian will lose in the state volleyball finals to Jenison. The Mustangs lost to Jenison in last year's state final in three sets, and while things will be closer this time around, Jenison will prove too tough again.
- Farmington Hills Mercy in Division 2 and Birmingham Marian in Division 3 will win state swim titles. Mercy is a slam dunk in Division 2, while Marian will have a neck-and-neck battle with East Grand Rapids in the Division 3 finals at Oakland University. Still, the Mustangs will find a way.

Sure the football semifinals, the volleyball state finals and the girls swim finals are upon us this weekend, but before he addresses those subjects later this week on this blog, Kosmo needs to point out that the first winter sport will actually start games this week.
Believe it or not, hockey teams could officially start playing games on Monday. I suppose Kosmo should've seen it coming with all the snow falling around his cave this weekend, but it's still hard to believe pucks will be dropped for game action already this week.
As far as prep seasons go, hockey just seems to be the longest. It might not necessarily be, but it just seems that way since teams are allowed to play 25 games and the season of games, not necesarrily official practices, lasts all the way until early March, nearly four months. Pretty soon, the Oakland Press will come out with its hockey preview, so stay tuned for that and get ready for a full winter's worth of hockey scores.

Before last year, only four teams from Oakland County ever advanced to a state championship game in volleyball. Last season, three did on the same day (Birmingham Roeper, Birmingham Marian, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep), with Notre Dame Prep becoming the first area team to ever win a state volleyball title.
Of course, most around the state probably thought it was a fluke that Oakland County was flexing its muscle in volleyball, but given the amount of teams left after last week's district round of this year's state tournament, maybe it wasn't an aberration.
Entering the start of regional play on Tuesday, there are 14 area teams left, a healthy number.
Given that, maybe Battle Creek, the sight of the state semifinals and finals, will be littered with area teams again in a couple of weeks. If that's the case, than Oakland County might truly be on the map as far as an area of power on the high school volleyball scene.

This is normally an exciting time of year for Kosmo with the football playoffs ongoing and the start of basketball season around the corner, but all that was dampened by the sudden death of Pontiac Central athletic director and community icon Bill Glover on Monday.
All Kosmo can say to people is that you never know when it's your time. Glover was a perfectly healthy 55-year old man who was exercising when he had a heart attack. Kosmo just doesn't get it.
Because of it, the gentleman of all gentleman in the city of Pontiac has been taken from us. Glover was one of the best basketball players to play at Central and was Michigan State's second-leading scorer as a senior in 1975, but he was a better individual.
He was dedicated to his school and city and always put kids first. He did things the right way and will dearly be missed.
Condolences go out to the Glover family and the many who knew him best.

Kosmo isn't sure who the No. 1 football team in Oakland County will next year, but he does know that whichever team gets the top nod should probably run.
It's never easy to manage high expectations, as proved to be the case for Rochester Adams and Orchard Lake St. Mary's this year. Before last year, Adams was somewhat under the radar with a No. 6 ranking entering the season, while St. Mary's was No. 10. Adams ended up making the semifinals, while St. Mary's lost in five overtimes in the Division 3 state final.
This year, Adams was ranked No. 1 and St. Mary's No. 2 entering the season.
So what happens?
St. Mary's has only its second losing season in 20 years, while Adams has some defensive issues and ends up losing in the first round of the playoffs to Brother Rice.
Both are great programs who will be back, but they even proved that no matter who you are, it's never easy to play with a target on your back.
